BACKGROUND
![]() Self portraite, 1985 |
In my formative years I favoured artistic classes rather than academic lessons which led to 4 years at Art School studying graphic design. In a time before computers and digital imaging, Art School was a traditional grounding with a blank sheet of paper and pencil – your imagination was free to run wild. Happy times!
This was the best launch pad into the real world. For 10 years I toiled at the drawing board knocking out designs with Magic Markers, cursing when my Rotring pen blocked, setting type using my Browns Index, and spec'ing artwork to send to printers.
As with most designers I took a byte from the Apple in the 90s (see what I did there?) – and along the way won an industry award for design work and image manipulation on travel brochures.
Having spent most of my waking hours and a good percentage of midnight oil over the past 40-something years focussed on design, I cannot switch off that side of my brain – I am naturally creative.
